Discussion Point #1: What is our identity? Husband? Dad? Mom? Wife? Daughter or Son?
Those are titles not our identity. Our titles can change married people can become widower/widow, single people can become married and married people can get divorced.
Ruth 1:3-5 (AMP) 3Then Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died, and she was left [a widow] with her two sons. 4They took wives from the Moabite women; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other was Ruth. 5They lived there about ten years; and then both Mahlon and Chilion also died, so the woman [Naomi] was left without her two sons and her husband.
Ruth 1:19-21 (AMP) 19So the two of them went on until they came to Bethlehem. And when they arrived in Bethlehem, the whole city was stirred because of them, and the women asked, “Is this Naomi?” 20She said to them, “Do not call me Naomi (sweetness); call me Mara (bitter), for the Almighty has caused me great grief and bitterness. 21I left full [with a husband and two sons], but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi, since the Lord has testified against me and the Almighty has afflicted me?”
Discussion Point #2: When turmoil came and Naomi lost her title has mother and wife, her identity was challenged because she found her identity in a title. Where have you positioned and found your identity?
Ephesians 2:10 10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
When we know Whose we are we know who we are. Not one time in the book of Ruth was Naomi called Mara. We don’t change our identity on what has happened to us because we can’t make permanent decisions on temporary situations.
Discussion Point #3: What temporary situations are we going through and are we maintaining our identity as children of God?
John 1:12 12But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
Psalms 68:6 (AMP) 6God makes a home for the lonely; He leads the prisoners into prosperity, Only the stubborn and rebellious dwell in a parched land.
Challenge for the Week: Pray over your identity, your children’s identities, know who and whose you are so when storms come the foundation cannot be shaken.
